Couples may have problem getting pregnant. Infertility problem may be in both male or female.
Azoospermia is a medical condition in infertile men that means no sperm cell presence in semen fluid. Azoospermia is no sperm cells or lack of sperm cells in semen fluid. Azoospermia affects 1-2% of men and 20% of infertile men.
Sperm count also called sperm concentration should be at least 15 million sperm cells per semen fluid mL for fertilization according to WHO. Your doctor may recommend you to have a semen analysis test ( spermogram, sperm test) to determine your sperm cell count.
There are 2 types of azoospermia as listed;
- Obstructive azoospermia
- Non-obstructive azoospermia
Obstructive azoospermia means that there is sperm cell production in testicles but sperm cells can’t be ejaculated because of an obstruction in reproductive tract. Obstructive azoospermia may be caused by an infection or trauma.
In non-obstructive azoospermia condition, testicles can’t produce enough sperm cells that can be determined in semen analysis. Non-obstructive azoospermia is more serious than obstructive azoospermia. Non-obstructive azoospermia may be caused by hormonal problems, genetic problems or varicocele.
